Its well-preserved walls, moat, gates, drawbridge, main towers, watchtowers, parapet walls and crenels etc display an ancient defense system in integrity for the tourists today.

In Shaanxi, cave dwellings can be seen everywhere, especially in Yan’an and Yulin districts. Loess in plateau is sticky, hard and not easy to collapse. People living on the Loess Plateau of northern Shaanxi have been dwelling in cave houses since 4,000 years ago. Most caves houses are carved out of the mountains. Local villagers carve caves in a simple, cheap way. What’s more, cave houses are easy to heat in winter and cool in summer. Today, cave houses are still widely spread on the Loess Plateau with more than 40 million residents.

These stores deal mostly in the four treasures of study: curios, jade articles, gold and silver ornaments, calligraphies and paintings of celebrities, copybooks and handcrafted keepsakes. The ancient Cultural Street of Shuyuanmen There are authentic works by some celebrated artists, but you can always try bargaining for the one you want. You can find here paintings by Liu Wenxi, a Xi'an artist who drew the images on the RMB 100 note.
