A UNESCO World Heritage Site where the world's oldest parliament was founded and the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates are visibly drifting apart. The park also features Iceland's largest natural lake. We walk the rift valley between the continents and visit the original site of the Alþingi, founded in 930 AD.

The world's most famous geyser, from which all others are named. Watch as Strokkur erupts every 5–7 minutes, shooting boiling water over 30 metres into the air. The surrounding geothermal field has bubbling mud pots, hot springs, and steam vents.

A thunderous, glacially-fed waterfall with stunning viewpoints — a true national treasure. Two cascades drop a combined 32 metres into a deep canyon, throwing up spray and rainbows on sunny days.

A 60-metre waterfall unique for the path that lets you walk behind the cascade. Waterproof clothing recommended — you will get wet. One of the most photographed waterfalls in Iceland.

One of Iceland's tallest and most powerful waterfalls — 25 metres wide and 60 metres tall. A staircase to the side leads to a viewing platform at the top with sweeping coastal views. On sunny days you can usually catch a rainbow in the spray.

A hauntingly beautiful volcanic beach with towering basalt columns, sea caves, and offshore sea stacks. The Atlantic surf here is famously powerful — sneaker waves can reach surprisingly far up the beach, so we keep a respectful distance from the water.

A 300-metre-deep glacial lake filled with enormous floating icebergs that have broken off Vatnajökull, Europe's largest glacier. The lagoon connects to the sea via a short channel where seals often gather. This area has been featured in James Bond, Star Wars, and Game of Thrones.

Adjacent to the glacier lagoon, this stretch of black volcanic sand glitters with chunks of glacial ice that wash up from the sea — translucent, blue, and shaped like polished diamonds. Photography conditions here are exceptional in any light.

The day's main activity depends on the season. October to April: a specially equipped super jeep takes you across icy terrain to a remote crystal blue ice cave deep within Vatnajökull, where your professional glacier guide provides all gear and safety instructions for a walk through shimmering blue ice tunnels and ancient frozen formations. May to September: you trek across Breiðamerkurjökull, an outlet glacier of Vatnajökull, with crampons, helmets, and a certified glacier guide who explains the glacier's history and features as you walk past crevasses and moulins.

A stunning, ancient canyon with dramatic cliff walls up to 100 metres high and a winding river at the bottom. A walking path along the upper rim offers sweeping views into the gorge. Believed to be roughly two million years old.

The largest lava field ever recorded in human history — created by the Laki eruption of 1783, which covered roughly 565 square kilometres in lava and altered global climate for years afterward. Today the lava is blanketed in thick green moss, creating a surreal landscape that feels like another planet. NASA astronauts trained here before the Apollo missions.

A dramatic 120-metre-high promontory with a massive natural sea arch carved by the Atlantic. Panoramic views stretch across glaciers, black beaches, and the south coast. In summer this is one of Iceland's best places to see Atlantic puffins nesting in the cliffs (May to mid-August).
