3 Day Garden Route Adventure Caves Safari and Wine Tasting

Your journey begins as you depart Cape Town and travel along the scenic R62 wine route, one of South Africa’s most beautiful drives. This route winds through vineyard valleys, rugged mountain passes, and charming country towns, offering endless photo opportunities. By midday, you’ll arrive in Oudtshoorn, the “Ostrich Capital of the World,” set in the heart of the Klein Karoo.

The highlight of the day is a guided tour of the Cango Caves, one of the world’s greatest natural wonders. Here you’ll explore vast underground chambers filled with ancient stalactites, stalagmites, and intricate limestone formations carved by nature over millions of years. The caves’ scale and beauty make them a must-see destination along the route.

Day 2 begins with a short journey to Botlierskop Private Game Reserve, where you’ll embark on a guided safari through pristine bushveld. Here you have the chance to spot elephants, rhinos, giraffes, zebras, antelope, buffalo, and an impressive variety of birdlife. The reserve offers an authentic African safari experience.

From the safari, continue along the Garden Route toward Plettenberg Bay to explore the breathtaking Robberg Nature Reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its rugged cliffs, fynbos-covered trails, and sweeping views of the ocean. Even outside whale season, Hermanus charms visitors with its dramatic scenery and relaxed seaside vibe.

The tour continues with a stop at the Benguela Cove Wine Estate, where you’ll enjoy a tasting of fine wines paired with sweeping views over the Bot River Lagoon and surrounding vineyards. It’s the perfect chance to savor the flavors of the Cape winelands before your journey’s end.

Before returning to Cape Town, the final stop is at Betty’s Bay, home to a large colony of endangered African penguins at Stony Point Nature Reserve. Watching these charismatic birds in their natural habitat is a delightful way to conclude your Garden Route adventure.
