Kumano Hongu Taisha The Kumano Hongu Taisha is the first stop on the Nakahechi route, one of the most popular pilgrimage routes in Kumano, after a long and arduous journey. Among the three mountains, the Kumano Hongu Taisha has a particularly old-fashioned atmosphere. If you arrive early, you will be guided to Oyunobara. The 33-meter-high Otorii (Grand Gate), the tallest in Japan, was built in a corner of the vast site where the old shrine building used to stand before the Hongu Taisha was relocated.

Take Limited Express Kuroshio 36 to go back to Osaka. From Kii Tanabe station → Shin Osaka station (arrive at 22:08 p.m.). No guide will accompany you.
