Stony Point Nature Reserve — Penguin Colony • African Penguins Up Close At Stony Point Nature Reserve guests will visit one of the largest mainland African penguin breeding colonies in the world, right at Betty’s Bay. These endangered birds can be seen waddling, interacting, swimming and nesting in their natural coastal habitat. • Wooden Boardwalk Views A boardwalk winds through the colony, giving visitors the chance to see penguins at eye level without disturbing them. • Other Coastal Wildlife Visitors also often see a variety of seabirds such as Cormorants (Cape, Bank and Crowned) and gulls, plus dassies (rock hyrax) sunning on the rocks. • Old Whaling Station Remnants The penguin reserve is on the site of the old Waaygat Whaling Station — remnants of machinery and history add an interesting backdrop to the nature experience
