Sema: A Whirling Journey of Love Inspired by Rumi, the Sema ceremony symbolizes the spiritual journey of the soul toward the Divine. Each turn represents a union of mind and love—an ascension to truth. The semazen’s tall hat is the tombstone of ego, and the white robe, its shroud. With the right hand raised to the heavens and the left turned toward the earth, he becomes a bridge—receiving divine grace and offering it to all. The 7-part ritual includes Quranic recitation, sacred chants, flute improvisation, and four salutes representing spiritual awakening and return to servanthood. More than a performance, Sema is a prayer in motion—a sacred dance from heart to heart.
