The origins of Calcata, whose very toponym remains an etymological enigma, are lost in the mists of time. Certainly inhabited during the prehistoric era, the area became an important outpost of the Faliscan civilization in pre-Roman times. A civilization that is culturally similar but not comparable to that of the Etruscan one and perhaps even more ancient.

The peculiar characteristic of the village consists of the houses built entirely with the local lava stone. A pleasant scenario, therefore, which must not be misleading. At night, in fact, the castle (made even more spectacular by a masterful artistic lighting) takes on a dark and dark aspect that brings it to mind as the perfect scenario of that whimsical and revolutionary era, yes, but also frivolous and violent that was the sixteenth century .

It was built in the fifteenth century by the Orsini family, in a place where in the past there were the remains of a medieval fortress. The Bracciano Castle, whose name derives from the family that owned it since 1696, preserves splendid frescoes and period furniture inside, and for this reason it is considered one of the most elegant fortified historical residences in Italy.
