Taqah Castle is a captivating historical landmark located in the coastal town of Taqah, near Salalah in the Dhofar Governorate of Oman. It's a popular tourist attraction offering a glimpse into the rich cultural heritage and traditional Omani life of the region. Built in the 19th Century: Unlike many older Omani forts, Taqah Castle is relatively young, constructed in the 19th century during the reign of Sultan Taimur bin Faisal al Said (1913-1932. It originally served as the private residence of Sheikh Ali bin Taman Al Ma'shani, the grandfather of Sultan Qaboos's mother. Later, it became government property and functioned as an administrative center and residence for local governors. The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism undertook extensive restoration efforts, and the castle was reopened as a museum in 1994, preserving its original design and showcasing Omani history.
