Open Air Museum, a hidden valley where you can see many rock-cut churches and their associated buildings; especially dining created from the 10th to the 12th century and are famous for the special rooms (refectories) and kitchens. These churches were fresco paintings decorating the walls and ceilings. Each church has different paintings. Due to the special technique used, the colours can be as vivid as when they were first painted, up to a thousand years ago. The paintings were important sources of information for the people of the time, most of whom could not read or write.
