The army was meant to protect the emperor in his afterlife, when he considered himself continue to be the ruler. He literally made everything he own when he was alive into terracotta and even sacrificed human being to accompany him under the ground. The whole site extends about 120,000 sq meters, located at the northern foot of Lishan, east if Lintong County.
