The towers were constructed with a special fired brick, using a mysterious mortar-less technique that scientists have yet to fully decipher. Each tower has a square base, rising towards the sky to symbolize Mount Meru, the sacred mountain in Hindu mythology. However, it is uniquely adapted to the local Champa style, incorporating indigenous artistic elements like the motifs of linga and yoni. Unlike pure Indian temples, Mỹ Sơn showcases its own distinct creativity with intricate bas-reliefs depicting Apsara dances, deities, and scenes from the daily life of the Champa people. Furthermore, the geographical location of Mỹ Sơn—nestled in a secluded valley surrounded by mountains—creates a mystical atmosphere, like a "sacred valley" of its own. This was once a site for important religious rituals, reflecting an independent Champa civilization that, while influenced by India, developed in its own direction, distinct from neighboring cultures such as the Khmer or ancient Vietnamese.
