Walk the glass-walled corridor watching pralines and Nama chocolate being produced in real time, browse exhibits tracing the journey from cacao pod to finished bar, and visit the on-site shop stocked with Hokkaido-only flavors that aren't sold elsewhere — an obvious omiyage (gift) stop before heading inland.

A self-paced visit to one of Hokkaido's most beloved gardens, an English-style perennial estate carved out of a former Asahikawa rice-storage farm. Wander among more than 1,000 plant varieties laid out across themed cottage borders, gravel paths, a 'Hokkaido Garden' showcasing native species, and the cafe-side mirror border. The garden peaks from June through September, with summer perennials and roses at their fullest in July and August.

A quick self-guided photo stop at one of Hokkaido's most dramatic natural duos. Plunging from sheer cliffs of the Sounkyo Gorge, Ryusei Falls (the 'Shooting Star') and Ginga Falls (the 'Milky Way') fall side by side in contrasting forms — one a thick, powerful column, the other a delicate silvery cascade. A short paved viewpoint trail leads to the photo platform.

A short self-guided stop along Biei's famously sculpted countryside, taking in lone-tree landmarks made nationally famous by 1970s commercials and ad campaigns: the Seven Stars Tree (1976 cigarette ad) and the Ken & Mary Tree (1972 Nissan Skyline ad). A single image of the pond shipped on Apple's Mac OS X Mountain Lion turned it into a global photo destination, drawing visitors year-round. The viewing platform sits a short walk from the parking area.

A photo stop at one of Hokkaido's most unusual natural landmarks. Unlike a typical waterfall, Shirahige doesn't pour from a river above — groundwater seeps horizontally out of a sheer cliff face, filtered through volcanic rock that tints the meltwater the same surreal cobalt as the nearby Blue Pond. The stream then pours straight into the Biei River below, viewable from a short paved bridge.

The summer floral highlight of the tour. From late June through mid-August, Farm Tomita's purple, pink, and white lavender terraces stretch toward the Tokachi range — the scene that put Furano on Japan's tourism map after appearing on a 1976 JR rail calendar. Walk the colored flower terraces at your own pace, browse the lavender-themed shop, and stop at the cafe (the lavender soft serve is a Hokkaido staple). After 15 August, when lavender season ends, this stop is replaced by Shikisai-no-oka, a panoramic 15-hectare patchwork of seasonal blooms in stripes of color.

The tour's atmospheric finale. Tucked into the forest behind the New Furano Prince Hotel, Ningle Terrace is a hillside of fifteen small timber cabins linked by raised wooden walkways, each hosting a different Hokkaido artisan selling handmade leather, glass, paper, and wood pieces. A short forest path leads to the nearby Forest Clock Cafe, made famous by a Japanese TV drama. The terrace begins to light up in the early evening, when lanterns flicker on inside each cabin and the walkways glow softly through the trees.
