To catch a glimpse of old Hong Kong, wander down the historic Pottinger Street that stretches to Hollywood Road. This picturesque spot features cobbled stone steps that descend steeply to Queen’s Road Central, the former waterfront area. Dating from the 1850s, this is one of the district’s oldest streets named after Hong Kong’s first governor, Sir Henry Eldred Curwen Pottinger.

Formerly one of Hong Kong’s first wet markets, Central Market is a Grade III historic building that has been revitalised into a ‘Playground for All’ by offering dining outlets, retail stores and cultural experiences that connect visitors to the neighbourhood’s history, tradition and contemporary culture.

The Central—Mid-Levels Escalator is a popular attraction in Hong Kong. It is an 800-metre-long system that opened in 1993 and is known as the world's longest outdoor covered escalator. It starts at Queen's Road Central, connects to the Central Market Flyover, and winds through Central up to Conduit Road.

Tai Kwun is located on Hollywood Road, Central, Hong Kong. There are three monuments in the building complex: the old Central Police Station, the former Central Magistracy and Victoria Prison. Man Mo Temple, distinguished by its green tiled roof, was constructed between 1847 and 1862. The complex includes Lit Shing Kung, which was created to worship all heavenly gods, and Kung Sor. The temple contains well-preserved artefacts such as a Qing Dynasty bronze bell cast in 1847 and a sedan chair built in 1862. Intricate granite pillars, door frames, carved wooden plaques, and historic murals demonstrate traditional craftsmanship, highlighting Chinese architectural features.

Old photographs of the ‘floating villages’ in Aberdeen Harbour, located between Hong Kong Island’s southern coast and the outlying islet of Ap Lei Chau — showing thousands of fishing families living on traditional Chinese junk houseboats in the mid-1900s — are among the city’s most iconic and enduring images. Take a stroll along the Ap Lei Chau Promenade and ride the kaito ferry to Aberdeen to take in local landmarks along the waterfront while enjoying the spectacular vistas looking out to sea.

Stretching 292 metres, Repulse Bay Beach is known for its silky soft white sand. The water is clear, calm and especially inviting for taking a dip in the sea. In fact, Repulse Bay’s beautiful beach has been Hong Kong Island’s main swimming beach since the 19th century.
