A charming temple located in Kita-Kamakura, renowned for its peaceful atmosphere and beautiful, carefully manicured gardens. Especially recommended during the seasons of hydrangeas, irises and red maples.

The largest temple in Kamakura, founded in 1253 by Tokiyori Hōjō, the fifth regent of the Kamakura shogunate. A prominent monk of the Song Dynasty in China was invited as the first abbot. This temple still retains valuable ancient Buddhist structures that no longer exist in China or Korea.

This sanctuary was built as a samurai deity at the end of the 11th century, when warriors began to play a central role in society. It is classified as a national historic site. Many ceremonies are held there throughout the year, including the Kamakura festival in April, the main festival in September, and the release of insects (suzumushi-hōjō-e). A visit allows you to feel the elegance of the Kamakura era.

Komachi Street is a busy pedestrian street connecting Tsurugaoka Hachiman-gu Shrine to JR Kamakura Station. There is a wide variety of shops, cafes, restaurants and souvenir shops. Visitors can explore the culture and flavours of Kamakura by strolling down this vibrant street.
