Drepung Monastery, once home to over 10,000 monks, is the largest in Tibet, with impressive white buildings on the mountainside. Here, you will gain a comprehensive understanding of Tibetan Buddhist philosophy, statues, and monastic life.

Today, you will explore two distinctive temples in Lhasa: Drepung Monastery and Sera Monastery. You'll visit the temple halls, monastic colleges, and the monks' kitchen, and witness their unique debate style of learning Buddhist teachings.

Today, let's delve into Lhasa's enchanting Tibetantreasures: the Potala Palace—once the residenceof theDalai Lamas and recognized as the highest palaceintheworld—and the wonders of Jokhang Temple andBarkhorStreet, both designated as UNESCO World HeritageSites.The Potala Palace, standing majestically onRedHill inthecenter of Lhasa, was the religious and political hubofTibet. Climb 365 steps to enter the main structure, theRedPalace, where you'll visit the former Dalai Lamas' politicalassembly hall, chapels, and stupa rooms, featuringexquisite murals and beautiful statues, representingthewealth and treasures of ancient Tibet.

Jokhang Temple, home to a 12-year-old statueof BuddhaShakyamuni, is revered as the most sacredplaceinTibetand a lifelong pilgrimage destination for Tibetans. Devoutpilgrims come from afar to pay their respects.

Surrounding Jokhang Temple is Barkhor Street, where worshipers circumambulate in prayer. You can join them to experience the soul of the city. The guide will also take you to a local teahouse to enjoy the social cultureof theTibetan people.

In the morning, you will drive 30 kilometers to Zhaibawa Temple, a sacred site once frequented by Padmasambhava, Tsongkhapa, and King Songtsen Gampo. As you open the doors to the temple's highest hall, you will gaze over the entire valley and distant snow-capped mountains, as if entering a portal to paradise, feeling the vastness and inclusiveness of Buddhism. After lunch, you'll head to Ganden Monastery, the birthplace of the Gelug school founded by Tsongkhapa and the oldest Yellow Sect monastery in Tibet. The temple complex covers the mountaintop and is truly grand. After exploring the monastery, join pilgrims on a circumambulation of the temple, which takes about 40 minutes. A simple meal will be prepared for you during the meditation session. Afterward, you will return to Lhasa.
