The Senso-Ji temple is the most widely visited spiritual site in the world, drawing over 30 million visitors a year to Asakusa, one of the oldest neighborhoods in the city. According to legend, the temple was founded in 645, thanks to two fishermen, the brothers Hinokuma no Hamanari and Hinokuma Takenari, who found a statue of Guanyin, to whom the temple is dedicated, in the Sumida River on March 18th, 628.

This is the largest park in Tokyo, created in 1873 and following the example of the USA, which the previous year had opened Yellowstone, the world’s first national park. This was in keeping with Emperor Meiji’s policy of opening up to the customs and ideas of the West as a means towards Japan’s modernization

Roppongi is the most futuristic neighborhood in Tokyo, and the center of the city’s nightlife. The literal meaning of the name "Roppongi", which appears to date to 1660, is "six trees”. This may be a reference to the six very old Zelkova (Japanese elm) trees that were originally used to mark the boundaries of the area: the first three were cleared over the years, and the remaining three were destroyed during the Second World War. According to another theory, the name might derive from the fact that during the Edo Period, six daimyōs, or feudal lords, lived in the vicinity, each of whose names included the character for “tree”.
