The driver will pick you up at your hotel, it's about one and half hour to drive to Mutianyu Great Wall. The start time is flexible. During the holiday or weekends, it's better to start earlier to avoid the crowds. Upon arrival, your driver will assist with tickets and then leave you to explore independently.
