The Killing Caves, located near Phnom Sampov, serve as a sombre reminder of what happened there not long ago. The Khmer Rouge massacred hundreds of individuals at the top of the cave, allowing their remains to tumble into the darkness below. Inside the cave, you'll discover a reclining gold Buddha and the remains of those who died here. When I arrived, there was also an elderly man sitting inside. Our tour guide said that he worked as a cook for the Khmer Rouge and was thus spared throughout the slaughter. He now looks after the monument, which is both sad and beautiful as a reminder of what he has gone through.

Everyday, hundred of tourists assemble at sunset just down the road from Phnom Sampeau's Killing Caves to see an astonishing natural spectacle: the nightly migration of a massive colony of hungry wrinkle-lipped free-tailed bats.
